Kathlene Burke
Bio:
Kathlene Burke is a cross-border special situations lawyer and the founder of Burke Legal and MaikCóir Ltd. She is qualified and actively practises in Ireland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the BVI. She has held roles at leading international law firms in Dublin, London, and New York. Through the Burke Legal, MaiKCoir and Nexa platforms, she delivers integrated legal and strategic advice across jurisdictions on distressed situations. Kathlene's work frequently involves the coordination of cross-border processes, schemes and recognition strategies spanning multiple legal systems.
Kathlene is currently an independent advisor to the Government of Argentina, where she is leading a senior advisory group on a comprehensive national bankruptcy-law reform initiative. Her work encompasses comparative analysis of Irish insolvency law, U.S. Chapter 11, UK Schemes of Arrangement and Restructuring Plans, and EU restructuring regimes to develop judicial processes and a statutory regime aligned with international best practices.
She is deeply engaged in international insolvency policy and thought leadership. Kathlene serves as Chair of the CERIL (Conference on European Restructuring and Insolvency Law) Delegation to UNCITRAL Working Group V (Insolvency) and is invited to speak at United Nations forums on cross-border insolvency, enforcement of insolvency-related judgments, and enterprise-group restructurings. She has held senior leadership roles within IWIRC (International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation), including service as Chair of the Europe and London Networks, and as EU Regional Director at IWIRC International, and continues to contribute to its global governance. She is a frequent speaker and commentator for International Insolvency Institute, INSOL Europe, Global Restructuring Review, and Debtwire articles, podcasts and conferences.
