Dr Shuaihao Mi is a Lecturer in Law at the School of Law, Shanxi University of Finance and Economics (SUFE), China. He teaches and researches insolvency and international economic law, with a particular focus on cross-border insolvency, international debt restructuring, and the internationalisation of China’s insolvency framework in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative.
Dr Mi holds a PhD in Law from the University of Leeds (UK), where he studied under the supervision of Professor Gerard McCormack and Oriana Casasola. His doctoral thesis, China’s Cross-Border Insolvency Legal Framework in the Context of the Belt and Road Initiative, critically examines China’s evolving cross-border insolvency regime and its interaction with international standards and transnational restructuring practice. He previously completed an LLM at the University of Leeds and obtained his LLB from Shanxi University.
Dr Mi is a member of the International Insolvency Association. In 2024, he received a Global Silver Award in an international insolvency paper competition. His recent work engages with cutting-edge reform debates, including the modernisation of China’s Enterprise Bankruptcy Law and the institutional challenges posed by the digital economy (especially digital assets in insolvency). Alongside his academic research, he is active in curriculum development and teaching innovation, including the bilingual course materials in bankruptcy and Anglo-American law, and the integration of comparative and international perspectives into undergraduate and postgraduate legal education.
