Sophia Rolle-Kapousouzoglou is a Partner in Lennox Paton’s Commercial Litigation department; she appears regularly as Lead Counsel and Junior Counsel before the Bahamian Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. Sophia has been referred to as a highly capable and skilled advocate and is known as a strong trial lawyer.
Sophia represents liquidators, receivers, creditor groups, debtors, lenders, trade creditors, insurers, equity holders and investors in all aspects of complex corporate restructuring and receiverships. Sophia has recently been involved in several prominent cross-border insolvency cases including the application for recognition of Chapter 11 foreign proceedings commenced by Northshore Mainland Services Inc. (Debtor) and the Baha Mar Companies (In liquidation); an application for recognition proceedings on behalf of Liquidators of Cayman based Caledonian Bank (In liquidation) followed by ancillary winding up proceedings with respect to the Caledonian Bank; and, personal bankruptcy proceedings commenced in The Bahamas with respect to the Estate of Sir Anthony O’Reilly. Sophia has also been involved in proceedings relating to an application to set aside fraudulent preference claims served on a creditor of a Bahamian based Mutual Fund outside of the jurisdiction. Sophia has a broad range of experience and has represented clients in multi-jurisdictional matters including bankruptcy law and has been named to ‘GRR’s 40 Under 40’.
Sophia’s overall practice areas include advising clients with respect to liquidations, shareholder disputes, contractual disputes, trust litigation, property disputes, fraud and asset tracing Norwich Pharmacal applications, applications for injunctions and other interlocutory relief. Sophia is a Fellow of INSOL International, and she enjoys legal research and has written articles which have been published in several highly respected legal journals.
