Gold and Silver Medalists in 2008 III Prize In International Insolvency Studies Announced

The 2008 Prize Winners are:

2008 GOLD MEDAL:

Awarded to Andy Soh of Jones Day,

2008 SILVER MEDAL:

Awarded to Brendan Driscoll of White & Case LLP,

New York, New York

"International Comity After Chapter 15: A Residual Right to Recognition?"

III received several excellent submissions for the 2008 Prize and we thank all the entrants for their submissions.

The III, as an organization of 250 international insolvency experts from 64 countries, awards the prize for original research, commentary or analysis on topics of international insolvency and restructuring significance and on comparative international analysis of domestic insolvency and restructuring issues and developments. The Prize competition is open to full and part-time undergraduate and graduate students and to practitioners in practice for less than seven years.

Medal-winning entries are considered for publication in the Norton Journal of Bankruptcy Law and Practice (West) and in the IIIWest Annual Review of International Insolvency (which will premiere this year) as well as for inclusion in the Westlaw electronic database.

Entries are judged by a distinguished panel of leading international insolvency academics and practitioners. The Jury consists of Professor Bob Wessels, Leiden University, Leiden and St. John's University, New York, Chair; Professor Jay L. Westbrook, University of Texas , Austin , Vice-Chair, Hon. Samuel L. Bufford, United States Bankruptcy Court, Los Angeles; Professor Junichi Matsushita, University of Tokyo, Tokyo; Professor Christoph Paulus , Humboldt University, Berlin; and Hon. Adolfo Rouillon, Senior Counsel, Legal Department, World Bank, Washington, D.C.

As part of his Gold Medal Prize, Mr. Soh will be sponsored to attend the 8th annual conference of the III in Berlin in June where he will present his paper. Both Gold and Silver papers are posted on the III website, www.iiiglobal.org.
